For Small & Medium Businesses

Your AI Project,
Under Full Professional Control

AI coding tools let your team move fast — but without senior oversight, every sprint adds invisible debt. Features get built on shaky foundations. The codebase grows in ways nobody fully understands. Then one day it's unmaintainable. A senior engineer on retainer keeps it clean, solid, and under control from day one.

I've seen what happens when AI‑assisted development runs without professional oversight. The codebase becomes a liability. Getting control early costs a fraction of the cleanup later.

What You Get Every Month

Weekly Code Reviews

Every significant change reviewed by a senior engineer — not just "does it work," but "will it hold up."

  • PRs reviewed for correctness, clarity, and maintainability
  • Security issues caught before they hit production
  • AI-generated code evaluated for hidden fragility
  • Written feedback your team can learn from

Architecture Oversight

Major decisions made with someone who thinks in systems, not just features.

  • Database schema and API design review
  • Scalability and performance planning
  • Third-party integrations and vendor choices
  • Preventing structural mistakes that cost months to fix

Developer Guidance & Standards

Your team has a senior engineer to ask — so they stop guessing and start building right.

  • Async Q&A via Slack or email (2 business day response)
  • Coding standards and patterns established and enforced
  • Onboarding support for new developers
  • Technology decisions backed by experience, not guesswork

Monthly Technical Report

A clear picture of where your project stands — for you, not just your engineers.

  • What improved this month and what still needs attention
  • Technical risks flagged with business impact context
  • Recommendations for the next month
  • 60-minute briefing call with you and/or your team

Who This Is For

Built for small and medium businesses with an AI project actively in development — teams using AI coding tools, contractors, or in-house developers, but without a senior engineer keeping professional control over architecture and code quality. Primarily working with clients in the US, Canada, and Australia.

  • You have a development team (in-house or contractors) building or maintaining an AI-integrated product
  • AI coding tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, etc.) are part of your workflow and code is shipping fast
  • You don't have a CTO or senior engineer actively reviewing architecture and code quality
  • You're concerned the codebase is growing in ways that will become expensive to maintain or extend
  • You want professional accountability for technical quality without hiring a full-time senior engineer

This is probably not for you if:

  • You already have a CTO, VP of Engineering, or dedicated senior engineer on staff
  • You're pre-product and haven't started building yet
  • You need a developer to implement features, not to oversee and control quality

How It Works

  • Month 1

    Onboarding & Baseline Audit

The first month starts with a thorough review of your existing codebase. I map the architecture, identify the highest-risk areas, and establish a quality baseline. This becomes the foundation for everything that follows.

    • Full codebase audit with written findings
    • Architecture documentation (if it doesn't exist)
    • Critical risks identified and prioritized
    • Coding standards and review process established
  • Weekly

    Ongoing Reviews & Async Support

Every week, new code gets reviewed before it merges. Your team has a senior engineer available for questions, architecture decisions, and technical guidance — asynchronously, without blocking your workflow.

    • PR reviews with written feedback
    • Architecture and design decisions
    • Async Q&A via Slack or email
    • Security and performance issues flagged proactively
  • Monthly

    Technical Report & Briefing

At the end of every month you receive a written technical report — what improved, what still needs attention, and what to focus on next. We follow it up with a 60-minute briefing call to walk through findings and answer your questions.

    • Written report: improvements, risks, recommendations
    • 60-minute briefing call with you and/or your team
    • Clear priorities for the month ahead

How to Get Started

1

Book a free discovery call

A 30-minute call to understand your project, team, and goals. Tell me what you're building, what stack you're on, and what's worrying you. No preparation required — just a conversation.

2

Fit check & proposal

If we're a good fit, I'll outline exactly how the engagement works for your specific team and project. No generic packages — the scope is scoped to you. If I'm not the right fit, I'll tell you honestly.

3

NDA, contract & access

We sign a mutual NDA and a short monthly services agreement. You share repository access and invite me to Slack or your team's communication channel. Payment via Stripe, bank transfer, or Wise.

4

Onboarding begins

Month 1 starts with the onboarding audit. I review your codebase, document the architecture, and deliver the first findings report. From that point your team has a senior engineer in their corner every week.

Common Questions

What does "full professional control" actually mean day-to-day?

It means a senior engineer is actively involved in the quality of every change that goes into your product. In practice: I review code before it merges, weigh in on architectural decisions, answer your team's technical questions, and give you a monthly written picture of where things stand. Your developers still build — I make sure what they build is solid and stays maintainable.

How many hours per month do we get?

The engagement is scoped to outcomes, not hours. Typically this runs 15–25 hours per month depending on your team's velocity and the volume of code being reviewed. The goal is full coverage of your meaningful code changes — not to bill hours. If your team is shipping a lot, I scale with it.

Our developers are remote contractors. Can this still work?

Yes — this setup is specifically designed for distributed teams. Reviews happen asynchronously via GitHub or GitLab. Q&A runs over Slack or email. The monthly briefing is a video call. You don't need your contractors and me in the same timezone or even the same tools — I adapt to your workflow.

We've already accumulated a lot of technical debt. Is it too late?

Not at all. The onboarding audit in Month 1 maps exactly what you're working with — including the debt. The goal isn't to stop everything and do a big rewrite. It's to stop the bleeding, establish control going forward, and chip away at the worst debt systematically over time. Most companies are in exactly this position when they start.

What if we want to pause or cancel?

Cancel anytime with 30 days notice. There's no long-term contract — just a monthly services agreement that renews automatically until you stop it. If your project winds down, you scale down. No penalty, no awkward conversation.

How is this different from just hiring a senior engineer full-time?

A senior engineer full-time costs $150,000–$250,000 per year in salary, benefits, and recruiting. This retainer is $48,000 per year — and you get the oversight function without the overhead of employment. It's the right fit if you need quality control and technical leadership but don't yet have enough engineering work to justify a full-time hire.
